    Henning Wagenbreth, Germany (2002)

Henning Wagenbreth studied at the Kunsthochschule in East Berlin. Before the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, he worked for two years as an illustrator and film animator and created posters for various citizens’ groups. During the years of political transformation that followed the reunification of Germany, he designed many theatre posters, primarily using illustration and hand-drawn typography. In 1994, he returned to Berlin and began his current position as a professor of illustration and graphic design at the University of the Arts. Henning has illustrated many books for both children and adults, as well as posters and comic strips. He likes to design and digitize hand-drawn typefaces and has developed automated illustration systems. His work shows his interest in combining traditional graphic printing and drawing techniques with modern digital publishing technology. His work has been awarded prizes by poster festivals in Germany, France and Poland and by the German Book Foundation.
